Meet the Urban Earth Team 🌿

LEXI (she/her) - Co-Owner

Hello hello! My name is Lexi and I’m so excited to meet this lovely community of plant admirers. I am originally from southern California, but recently followed my heart and intuition and moved to Seattle in fall of 2021 from Boulder, Colorado. I’ve been inspired by the boundless beauty of the nature of Washington every day since.

Before finding my way to plants, I worked in the mental health field as a psychotherapist and caregiver. Supporting others on their healing journeys helped me realize that connecting with plants was one of the most crucial ingredients of my own mental and emotional health. This awareness particularly came to light during a long recovery from an intense hip surgery. I looked to my plants to model resilience, constant growth, and homeostasis.

Since then I’ve been eager to share the wisdom of plants with others. I started a small business growing and selling microgreens which created an even deeper hunger to venture further into the whimsical and precious world of plants. I believe that plants are the most nourishing form of art and I feel committed to helping them express themselves for all to see.

Finding Urban Earth Nursery was completely life affirming and grounding for me and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to continue its legacy and gifts for our community. Outside of the nursery you can find me dancing, singing, making art, and hugging trees and people.

KRISTIN (she/her) -
Co-Owner

Hi! I'm Kristin. I moved to Seattle in 2003, and graduated from Seattle University with a degree in Environmental Studies. After wandering a few years, I discovered plants in a new way, quit everything, and went back to school for a degree in Horticulture at Edmonds Community College, and haven’t looked back. I am endlessly awe-struck by the plant kingdom and my curiosity is never satisfied! I’ve worked in almost all facets of the industry - grower, landscaper, retail garden center, and now nursery owner. I am so proud and honored to be working with this incredible team of driven and compassionate folks.

My horticultural areas of interest are Integrated Pest Management, pest and disease ID, and plant health and nutrition.

VENESSA (she/her) - Operations Lead

Venessa does behind-the-scenes things like pay bills, maintain shop supplies, and manage the website. She also gets to do in-person things like ring your orders up, help take care of the shop’s many plants, and answer your questions and curiosities whenever you come through.

Venessa, who is newer to the Pacific Northwest, is happiest fussing over her collection of indoor plants. She’s also a writer, artist activist, and aspiring tarot practitioner.

MADISON (she/her) - Indoor Lead

Hello! I'm Madison. I'm an artist and designer with a love of plants, especially flowers. As a lifelong West Coast-er, I have a deep affection for all the flowering plants that grow here, from dahlias that thrive in the gardens of the Northwest to the wild poppies in the hills of California. Here at Urban Earth, I'm looking forward to getting more experience growing these beautiful blooms, as well as sharing my affinity for indoor plants with our community!

TAN (they/them) - Lead Gardener

Tan comes to Urban Earth with a deep love of sustainable landscape design, plant health and longevity, and community plant education. As a lifelong gardener, Tan thrives on large and small projects that reveal the beauty of existing spaces by removing unwanted or invasive species. They look to work with, instead of against, nature and native plants to create healthier and sustainable plantings.

As the Lead Gardener for this long-lived legend of a nursery, Tan will help find answers to your questions and is passionate about demystifying the plant world. They truly believe that if they can keep plants alive, you can too!

Tan and their wife are the proud parents of four dogs, two cats, two vampire crabs, and one praying mantis, not to mention a visual feast of hundreds of indoor and outdoor ornamental and edible plants.

DYLAN (she/her) - Nursery Associate

Hi there! My name is Dylan and my partner and I moved to the PNW in October of 2023. Since moving here I have discovered my love of dahlias and immediately went to work building planter boxes from repurposed wood.

Moving to Washington has really allowed me to flourish and follow my passions such as: Growing flowers, mushroom hunting, and caring for all kinds of plants (both indoor and outdoor.) You can find me curled up reading a romantasy, painting, playing with my three fur babies, reading tarot cards, and/or enjoying the great outdoors.

I look forward to seeing you in the shop and helping you find your next plant friend!

RYE (they, them) - Nursery Associate

Rye comes to Urban Earth after heading an indoor plant department from Portland, Oregon. They have a passion for caring for life indoor and out, foliage and furry friends alike. Originally from Washington, they are so excited to be part of a team that reflects their values of community, education, growth in all ways, and sustainability in their home state.

You can find them in the shop lingering amongst the plants, ready to get to know all about your gardening journey and plants at home! When they’re not digging around in the dirt, you can find them discovering new music, reading a good horror novel, or just gathering all the fun facts they can find.

They live here with their partner, dog, three cats, and betta fish. Can’t wait to get to know you and talk plants!
